About Heather R. Johnson

Since 1999, Heather R. Johnson has been the story architect behind Grammy Award-winning producers, engineers, and musicians; pioneers in health, science, and medicine; and trailblazers in AI and other sophisticated technology.
With scenes set everywhere from famed recording studios to renowned research institutions, I write from the head and the heart. I translate tech and science speak into compelling narratives, and I write stories that inspire and heal.
As a music and pro audio journalist, my work appeared in Mix, EQ, Electronic Musician, Audio Media, Performing Songwriter, and a couple times in No Depression and Country Music.
Since 2014, I have created content for big banks (Wells Fargo, Bank of America), healthcare companies (GE Healthcare, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Medline), and dozens of medical device, medical technology, and life sciences companies. I continue that work today as the founder of OutWord Bound.
My two traditionally published books include If These Halls Could Talk: A Historical Tour through San Francisco Recording Studios and Born in a Small Town: John Mellencamp.
The Fine Print
Born in Akron, Ohio and raised in Nashville, I moved to San Francisco with my cat, Soleil, on April Fool’s Day 2003. Rooted in Oakland since 2008, you can often find me running or riding through the Oakland hills…sometimes for long periods of time.
I also volunteer with CatTown, a nonprofit that helps Oakland’s most vulnerable shelter cats. When I work from home, my own rescue kitty, Geoff, is usually sleeping beside me. He makes frequent appearances on video calls, just so you know.
